In Ray Bradbury’s frightening vision of the future, firemen don’t put out fires — they start them in order to burn books. Guy Montag is a fireman who lives in this lonely, isolated society where books have been outlawed. In this world, very few people still bother to consider the deeper questions of philosophy and religion. They are consumed with instant gratification. Guy suddenly discovers that books are flesh and blood ideas that cry out silently when put to the torch.
